On the 3rd of November, 2019 The Infantry School, Mhow, Indore organized the first Infantry Marathon in association with Ranbhoomi 6.0, IIM Indore’s Sports Fest to be held from 31st January to 2nd February 2010. Ranbhoomi is Central India’s Largest Sports Fest and the only undergraduate sports fest conducted by any IIM.
The event was conducted in Mhow itself. It had three sub-categories of 5km, 10km, and 21km. Over 50 students from IIM Indore participated in the marathon while 12 students from the Ranbhoomi team were volunteers for the same. The Ranbhoomi team exclusively monitored 2 checkposts on the marathon route where the team distributed Water, Juice, Orange Soda and Cookies to the runners.
The event was graced by Chief Guests such as Jitu Rai, Arjuna award and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award winner for Shooting; Viren Rasquinha, former captain of the Indian National Field Hockey Team; and Subedar Major and Honorary Captain Bana Singh, PVC, retired Indian Soldier and recipient of the Param Vir Chakra, India’s Highest Civilian Honour. The Ranbhoomi Team got the opportunity to interact with the guests and discuss the current situation of sports in the country and how events and sports fests such as Ranbhoomi can bring about a positive change in the way people look at sports today.
They also discussed the impact of sports on a person’s overall physical as well as mental wellbeing. While discussing an upcoming event by the Ranbhoomi team called Chaaya, a sports event for children with disabilities, one of the guests praised the initiative and talked about how sports can be a place to express oneself more freely.
